Carl Yaeckel was born in El Centro, California on May 27,
1954. He has resided in San Diego County since 1977. Mr. Yaeckel
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, magna cum laude,
from Occidental College in 1976. In 1979 he received a Juris Doctor
degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
Mr. Yaeckel began his legal career with the San Diego City Attorney’s
office in 1979 trying criminal matters. In 1981 he joined Defenders, Inc. of San Diego, acting
as a public defender in felony and juvenile proceedings. In 1983
he assumed similar responsibilities in the federal courts at Federal
Defenders of San Diego, Inc. Mr. Yaeckel joined the firm as an associate
in 1985 and became a partner in 1992.
He is admitted to practice before all the courts in the State of California, and all of the United States District Courts
in California, the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit,
and the United States Supreme Court.
